SCN have today learned that St Helens is to make a last minute bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games. A spokesperson from the St Helens Sports Development team told SCN “We’ve been thinking about this bid for a number of years now, it isn’t just a flash in the pan. Ever since Dick Sheppard stopped doing car stunts at St Helens show we knew we needed to start planning another event as Sherdley Show was just shit. We’ve spoken to all the right people and we believe that St Helens has what it takes to host the 2020 Olympics at Sherdley Park”
It is believed that the council is being advised by John Wiseman who not only was a keen sportsman but also has vast event organisation experience from his days as vice chairman of the Parr and Hardshaw Subbuteo finals held at the Fleece Hotel during the 1970s. John will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina next year to present the towns Olympic bid to the International Olympic Committee. We called John at his Laffak home on Monday but his Wife told us he was unable to comment as he’d nipped to Fosters DIY for some drain cleaner.
