The well known loss making coffee chain Starbucks is to start offering tax avoidance advice over a coffee at all it’s retail outlets in the UK. Group owner Dr Evil today confirmed from his famous St Helens ‘Dream’ lair that the Starbucks group were “pretty damn good” when it comes to taxation law.
The group has recently been attacked for telling it’s investors that it’s UK operations were profitable whilst at the same time paying minimal UK tax on the basis of being unprofitable. This has shocked the UK government who are well known for being honest and telling the truth at all times.
It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds as the tax inspectors learn that the profit from the UK operations is in fact legitimately made further up the Starbucks chain during the roasting process by another Starbucks division and also in royalty fees that channel back to a country with a lower and less greedy tax rate.
No doubt the Inland Revenue will investigate Starbucks now with little concern or regard for how the organisation has created many jobs not just directly but indirectly across it’s many UK suppliers. And all the while the financial markets responsible for the recession that has all but bankrupted the western world and created the need for gestapo type tax collections will continue to quaff champagne and pay each other obscene bonuses.
