Burgies olympic shocker

NEWS10 August 2003

A late bid by St Helens has just arrived at the international olympic headquarters.
The proposed bid is rumoured to be in the region of £98,000, and SHCN can exclusively reveal that the site of the proposed olympic stadium is "the Burgies complex".
Ernie Whipplethrutch, olympic bid coordinator outlined the proposal
"A state of the art running track will skirt the perimeter, with field events such as the javelin and the hammer taking place on the top level of the burgies site. The Swimming finals will be at Boundry road olympic pool, and sailing events at carr mill dam, of course the pinnacle of our olympic hopes will rest with the rowing team and I feel that they will feel right at home on the stinky brook"
The wrestling , boxing, marshal arts and fencing events would be scheduled to take place on several sites in the centre of te town over the course of two weekends

Mr Whipplethrutch also confirmed that the site of the olympic village was still under consideration, with Blackbrook being a strong contender closely followed by Parr, Clock face and Clinkham wood.
In a final note Whipplethrutch was quoted as saying " I think that this is StHelens' time , time for our glorius town to be truly recognised for what it is"
